Overview
Xian Mei Red Bean Soup (鮮美紅豆湯 冷飲店) is a longtime Taiwanese sweet soup shop near MRT Shuanglian in Taipei. Unlike many Taiwanese dessert shops that mainly offer tangyuan (湯圓) during winter, the shop serves tangyuan throughout the year, making it a great place to try this traditional dessert anytime. Everything here is homemade, including the tangyuan and other toppings such as taro balls and snow fungus (銀耳). During the summer, the shop also serves shaved ice with a variety of homemade toppings. Everything they serve at this shop is vegan, making it an easy option for vegan travelers looking to try traditional Taiwanese desserts.

The red bean soup is pleasantly sweet, while the broth is infused with the aroma of freshly cooked peanuts. The red beans are perfectly soft and creamy. I would say the highlight is definitely the freshly made tangyuan, which has a chewy texture and a distinct fragrance of freshly kneaded dough.
