Overview
Geng (羹) is a traditional Taiwanese-style thickened soup made by adding starch to a savory broth, giving it a smooth, silky texture. Geng is often served with noodles or rice vermicelli and commonly includes ingredients such as meatballs, deep-fried fish cake, squid, and mushrooms.
Penguin Wen Thick Pork Soup (企鵝文肉羹店) has been serving locals for more than 30 years and is now operated by the third generation of the founding family. The shop is best known for two classic dishes: Fish Crisp Geng (魚酥羹) and Pork Meatball Geng (肉羹). Their pork meatballs are freshly shaped by hand, while both dishes are served in the shop’s signature thickened broth.

August 2nd, 2026 : Pork Geng Rice Noodle (肉羹米粉) + Fish Crisp Geng (魚酥羹)
The broth is wonderfully light and naturally sweet, with none of the greasy aftertaste that pork lard-based soups sometimes have. The pork meatballs are delightfully springy, clearly made from fresh, never-frozen pork. My personal favorite is the Fish Crisp Geng (魚酥羹). The fish crisps are exceptionally crispy, and the combination of the steaming-hot, silky geng broth with the freshly fried, crunchy fish crisps made for a refreshing and incredibly enjoyable bowl.
