Anping Tongji Bean Jelly is a longtime Tainan dessert shop known for its traditional tofu pudding. Its reputation reached the national stage when its tofu pudding was selected as a dessert for a Taiwanese presidential state banquet in 2001. Beyond the classic version, the shop is also known for its distinctive black soybean tofu pudding, made with black soybeans and bamboo charcoal.

1st visit :

March 2nd, 2026 : Traditional Tofu Pudding – Red Bean

The tofu pudding was incredibly smooth and silky, with just the right amount of sweetness. What makes this tofu pudding unique, and what I liked most, was its subtle burnt aroma. Since tofu pudding is made from soy milk, some of the proteins and sediment can stick to the bottom of the pot and become slightly scorched during cooking, creating this distinctive toasted aroma.

I personally love this flavor because, to me, it is a sign of naturally made tofu pudding rather than one made from powder.

March 5th, 2026 : Bamboo Charcoal Black Soybean Tofu Pudding – Mung Bean

Although it is advertised as bamboo charcoal tofu pudding made with black soybeans, I honestly couldn’t taste much difference between the black tofu pudding and the regular white version.
