Sean’s Review

A street food stall featuring mushroom-themed signage, displaying various mushrooms and food items. The stall has a glass display case and signs with prices and menu options. Located on a city street with scooters parked nearby.

Unlike many traditional Taiwanese night market stalls with simple red-and-white signs, this king oyster mushroom stall has a much more modern and artistic design

Taiwan’s king oyster mushrooms are largely grown in my hometown, Nantou County. In recent years, rising transportation costs have made them more expensive to bring to Taipei. As a result, stalls selling king oyster mushrooms have become less at Taipei’s night markets

The stall’s menu is very simple and easy to understand — you simply choose a flavor for your mushrooms

I picked Cumin. The simplest seasoning is often the best way to appreciate the freshness and natural flavor of the ingredients

The king oyster mushrooms (杏鮑菇) are slowly charcoal-grilled over low heat, brushed with a slightly sweet, soy sauce-like glaze, and finished with your choice of seasoning.

The king oyster mushrooms absorbed just the right amount of salt and cumin seasoning. They were incredibly juicy, with plenty of flavor in every bite.
