Overview

Shuixian Temple Three Brothers Fish Soup (水仙宮三兄弟鮮魚湯) is a fish soup shop near Shuixian Temple Market in Tainan. Its biggest specialty is the freshness of its seafood. Much of the fish is wild-caught at sea by the owner himself, so the selection changes depending on what is caught that day.

The shop follows an unusual schedule to keep its seafood fresh. Early-morning customers are served fish caught the previous night, while after noon, the shop begins serving fish brought back from the morning’s fishing trip. The owner intentionally catches only a limited amount rather than stocking more than the shop can sell, ensuring that everything they serve is incredibly fresh.

A small, cozy eatery with several tables, showcasing patrons enjoying their meals. The walls are adorned with various posters, photos, and menus, and a fan and air conditioning unit are visible. Three people are seated, two at the front and one at the back.

Unlike the semi-open food stalls commonly found in traditional wet markets in Taiwan, they have their own indoor dining area. Most importantly, it is air-conditioned

Fish soup (鮮魚湯) is a common dish in Taiwan. It is usually kept very simple, with little more than fresh fish and shredded ginger in a light broth

Their fish soup is simply seasoned, but even the broth alone has a noticeable natural sweetness from the fresh fish. The fish is also served in boneless pieces, making it easy for both adults and children to enjoy.

Oyster with Black Bean Sauce

The oysters are just as fresh. You can still taste the oysters’ natural briny, seawater flavor, which really highlights their freshness. Stir-fried with fermented black beans and just a little Taiwanese basil, the dish is incredibly aromatic.
